The board is sensing an obstruction or a safety trigger at the end of the close cycle. A photocell that is knocked out of line, dirty or wired loosely is the first suspect. A force setting that is too low, or a gate that binds slightly at the end of travel, can also cause it.

We check the sensors, wiring and force setting, then move the gate by hand to feel for stiffness. Fixing the cause is better than turning the sensitivity down.

DEA offers remote management technology on certain products, but it depends on the control unit fitted to your gate. Older units may not support it. We would need to see the unit and its label before saying what can be connected.

If your control unit does not support it, we can talk through other ways of giving phone control, such as GSM or WiFi modules, while being clear about what can and cannot work.

Clicking means something is switching, usually a relay on the board, but the motor is not turning. Possible causes include a failed start capacitor, a seized motor or gearbox, a gate that is jammed, or a release that has been left disengaged. The click can also come from a board that is trying to start and then dropping out because of low supply voltage.

We test the supply, the capacitor and the motor output separately to find which stage fails.

A sliding gate on a slope needs the operator to hold it. If it moves, the release may not be fully locked, the gearbox or pinion may be worn, or the track may have settled so the gate rolls downhill. Gravity makes any weakness visible.

Please keep people and vehicles clear until it is checked. A technician will inspect the release, drive, track and stops, and can advise whether the track needs adjustment.

Notes on the fault help most: when it started, whether it happens always or only sometimes, and what the gate does. A photo of the operator label and the control board gives us model details. Have all remotes and the keypad available and keep the gate area clear of cars and people.

A sliding entrance door moves sideways into a pocket or along the wall, so it needs no clearance in front of or behind the opening, which makes it the default choice for narrow shopfronts and mall entrances with heavy foot traffic. A swing door pushes open into the room or the street and needs clear space on the swing side.

Sliding doors generally handle higher footfall better and are easier to fit with an air curtain to keep air conditioning in.
