A gate that opens but refuses to close is nearly always responding to a safety input. Dirty or misaligned photocells, a damaged cable or a sensor stuck in the open state will stop closing. Some control boards also have an auto-close timer that has been switched off.

Clean the lenses and check nothing blocks the beam. If the gate still will not close, we test each input on the board to find the open circuit, and repair it without bypassing safety.

Try a wall button or keypad if you have one. If the gate responds, the motor and board are fine and the problem is the radio side: remote battery, receiver or antenna. If the gate does not respond to anything, the issue is with power, board or drive.

We test the remote, the receiver and the supply to identify which. If the receiver has lost its memory, remotes can be stored again, and spare remotes can be added where the receiver supports it.

A visit covers the mechanical side, the electrical side and the safety devices. Mechanical: wheels or hinges, track, rack, springs, fixings and release. Electrical: supply, fuses, control board and limit settings. Safety: photocells, edges and reversal on obstruction. We lubricate moving parts, clean the sensors and run the gate or door through repeated cycles.

Make sure we can reach the gate or door and its control box, and clear the path of cars and people. Note what the fault looks like, when it started and whether it comes and goes. Have all remotes, keypads and wall switches ready.

A sliding entrance door moves sideways into a pocket or along the wall, so it needs no clearance in front of or behind the opening, which makes it the default choice for narrow shopfronts and mall entrances with heavy foot traffic. A swing door pushes open into the room or the street and needs clear space on the swing side.
